In this session, participants will explore the meaning of culturally relevant pedagogy and authentic teaching. As classrooms and communities continue to diversify, teachers must reach audiences that may have experiences unlike their own. This session will specifically discuss cultural sensitivity as it relates to the use of spoken and written language and the value of music in the classroom. The session will also explore the teacher/practitioner’s role in cultivating a healthy environment for student transparency and growth both in the classroom and in the school community.
