Male aggression across the nation is a concern and causes challenges in providing environments that promote academic success. In fact, many schools in varying states are disproportionate in the amount of suspensions, expulsions, and special education placements of boys of color. School administrators across the nation are seeking ways to maintain orderly school environments. Therefore, it is important to be proactive in properly addressing this behavior in the K-12 setting before additional negative problems occur. One of the biggest challenges for educators is learning appropriate strategies to prevent and respond to male student aggression and violence. Male students comprise 90% of school suspensions, are three times more likely to become drug and alcohol abusers, receive greater behavioral penalties than do girls, and suffer from mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. These manifestations of the continuing problem of male aggression contribute to the school to prison pipeline, and schools remain challenged by disaffected male students, and personality disorders. Participants will: -Attend a face-to-face workshop with Dr. Jamel Gibson -Learn and practice intervention strategies to reduce male aggression in the K-12 setting -Use their knowledge to become a stronger asset for learning institutions -Devise a plan to become culturally aware of student differences -Will receive a takeaway reminder that lists interventions to help reduce male aggression in the K-12 setting.
