How do I get my students to actually enjoy reading and WANT to read? It’s an age-old problem with a rather simple solution- READ! As teachers, we need to become familiar with current book titles and strategies that have proven to be effective. Experience how a reading specialist and classroom teacher have worked together to foster a love of reading in reluctant readers as well as nurturing critical thinkers who make connections with text. Participants will see how elementary students have used texts and technology to skyrocket their interest in reading. Participants will gain strategies to help engage students in independent reading, gather text suggestions for encouraging critical thinking with texts, and create ways to incorporate technology such as Twitter into literacy.
